shulk
【 male | 18 years old | 5'6" | bi, but extremely dense 】
Shulk is a young man with a level head on his shoulders and a good heart in his chest. He is one of the very few individuals that can wield the legendary blade known as the Monado, and is the only one who can use it without negative effects. Shulk is determined, clever, quick thinking, and methodical, and does whatever he can to help those in need.
After the attack on his hometown of Colony 9, Shulk took up the Monado in place of the homs hero Dunban, and he swore that he would take vengeance upon the Mechon for what they had done-- for what that metal faced Mechon had done. Little did Shulk know, his journey would soon escalate to an epic quest of a much grander scale...
headcanons
(Note that this section is likely outdated due to being written before Future Connected's release.)
‣ While Shulk can be a bit awkward at times, he enjoys meeting new people and is eager and willing to make friends whenever possible.
‣ Shulk has a very high pain tolerance. This, combined with his determined nature, allows him to push forward in fights that he would not ordinarily be able to see through to the end.
‣ Whenever Shulk has some downtime around the other Smash fighters, he loves to ask them questions about their weapons and gear. As a weapons engineer, he is quite interested in the varying levels of technology.
‣ On occasion, Shulk will have dreams that relate to faint memories of his parents. He tends to forget these upon waking up.
‣ Shulk has a nasty scar in the center of his back from a certain event. Otherwise, he does not have any notable wounds aside from a few scratches here and there. He does frequently get bruises on his elbows, however.
‣ The Monados that Shulk wield in both Smash and the Land of Challenge (and Alrest, by extension) are not the original, and are merely convincing replicas. This is also why his Monado arts function differently in Smash, though it still has the capability of using every Monado Art Shulk has learned in the past when taken outside of the Smash setting.
‣ Despite his cleverness, Shulk can be extremely dense, especially in regard to things about himself or about romantic advances.
‣ While he has become a bit accustomed to meeting those with god-level powers by now, he still can't help but be a bit wary around them.
‣ Shulk's living quarters are always a bizarre mix between completely organized and an absolute mess. Some things seem like they've been sorted with great detail, others are strewn about and abandoned on the floor. The Monado, on the other hand, is always well taken care of.
‣ While he may neglect eating and sleeping, Shulk showers regularly. Though... he tends to take a very long time doing so. In truth, he has a tendency to fall asleep in the shower without meaning to...

spoiler headcanons
(These headcanons feature lategame and endgame spoilers for Xenoblade Chronicles. Read at your own risk.)
‣ Despite wishing for a world no need for gods, Shulk still retains the power he inherited from Zanza; he simply no longer has access to it. He has neither the need nor the desire for such power, and so it now lies dormant within him, allowing to live his life as a simple Homs for as long as he wills it. If someone were to help him to tap into that power once more, however, he would easily be able to resummon the God-Slaying Sword-- his True Monado.
‣ The world in which Shulk currently lives in when not in Smash or Alrest is the one that he himself recreated, and while the Bionis can be seen submerged into the ocean, many of the locations from the titan were recreated, just like Colony 9. Familiar locations such as Gaur Plain, Satorl Marsh, Makna Forest, and Eryth Sea still exist, and are scattered around the new landmass in a manner more similar to Earth geography.
‣ Thanks to the bizarre, multiverse connections of Smash, Shulk can visit the world as it was when his journey began at any time. This is how the Gaur Plains stage is still accessible, with the Mechonis looming over the horizon. It's somewhat nostalgic to Shulk, but also somewhat worrying, as he's unsure if it's simply a recreation of his original world, or if it's an alternate version of it where Zanza still exists...
‣ As mentioned in the regular headcanon section, the Monado acquired from the Land of Challenge is simply a replica. However, Shulk is constantly wary about its usage, as he is unsure what the limits of its capability are. The Smash Monado displays a simplicity that sets the mind at ease, but the Alrest Monado is much more powerful, much more true to the original.
‣ Shulk is under the assumption that his continued visions are the doing of the replica Monados of Smash and Alrest, akin to how Zanza's Monado worked, but in reality, his visions are his own doing-- he simply does not realize it. The Smash and Alrest Monados act as a conduit for his suppressed power, allowing bits and pieces of it to seep through the cracks in the form of visions. The timing of these visions is the same as before, only appearing to display crucial information when he needs it, which in turn strengthens Shulk's incorrect theory.

joker (torriku lupin)
@EyewearThief
[ ●●●○○ | ☑ ]
An enigmatic and very cool fighter you met in Smash. He's a recent addition to the ever-expanding roster of fighters, and is probably the coolest instance of a thief you've ever heard of in your life. He steals not for personal gain, but in order to alleviate others of their desires to do wrong. That's awesome! He's even nice to talk to, and seems to genuinely care for others! You've only talked to Joker on a few occasions, but each conversation has been quite interesting, ranging from the world that he originates from to the great foes you've had to face. The two of you seem to get along pretty well, so you'd love to get to know him a little better!

lucina
@ExaltedForseer
[ ●●●●○ | ☑ ]
A friend and ally met in Smash, as well as the leader of a universe-crossing group you are in called Future Onlookers Efforts, also known as F.O.E.. The title is a bit silly, but you think it's charming! You and Lucina aren't particularly close, but the two of you consider each other friends, and you know the other will have your back in battle should the need arise. She is a skilled swordswoman and you admire her techniques, and from what you've heard, she too had a strong desire to change the future, much like yourself. You'd like very much to hear more about Lucina's story someday, and perhaps become better friends through it!

nia
@KissMyCatArse
[ ●●○○○ | ♣ ]
An acquaintance of yours from Alrest, Nia is an interesting character to be sure. She is charismatic, but bold and somewhat brash. She certainly doesn't hesitate to speak her mind, though sometimes the things she says can be questionable. Still, you enjoy her company, and find her to be a powerful ally in battle.
You also can't help but find her cat ears to be somewhat cute... Oh, but don't let her know you think that, or else she might tear you a new one!

klaus (zanza)
@TheBionis
[ ○○○○○ | ✘ | ∞ | ? ]
His name is Klaus, but you know him better as Zanza, and refer to him as such. Once, he was a malevolent god that destroyed and recreated the universe time and time again, and used your body as a vessel until he deemed you unfit for such. Now? Well... now, he's just sort of... around. You don't like it, you don't like him, and to be honest, you have no idea how he's alive in the first place, considering you rended him in two with the True Monado.
You're worried that, despite apparently having mellowed out a bit, Klaus will do something catastrophic again. Maybe he'll hurt someone you care about, or maybe he'll threaten to destroy your newfound home. The possibilities set you on edge, and you want to be prepared to stop him if the need arises, but... how? You haven't seen your Monado since everything ended, and as it stands now, you can't defeat him if he does decide to do something.
At least, that's what you think.
Klaus may be rather passive at the moment, but you refuse to trust anything he says or does. Why did he have to come back...?

alvis
@MissingTrinity
[ ●●●○○ | ♣ | ? ]
Ever since your first meeting, Alvis has always been a complete enigma to you. Now that you know what he truly is-- or at least have a grasp on the concept-- you find things are slowly starting to make a bit more sense... but even still, it's just mystery after mystery with him. His knowledge seems to be practically infinite, and clearly he shares some kind of bond with the Aegises of Alrest, but what exactly that bond is escapes you. At least, for now, anyways. You intend to figure it out sooner or later.
Regardless, while Alvis does have an incredibly cryptic nature, you do know that he can be trusted. He doesn't seem to be on anyone's side per se, and he's usually willing to help you out when you ask for it (albeit in his own roundabout way), so you consider him a friend.

melia antiqua
@AncientEmpress
[ ●●●●● | ★ ]
You and Melia have been through a lot on your journey. After everything that's happened, you consider her a close friend and ally, and although you have your differences-- particularly in personality-- you definitely enjoy being in her company. You also admire her willpower and resolve, though sometimes you worry that she might be bottling up her problems. Which... is admittedly a bit hypocritical of you.
To tell the truth, there are still some things about Melia that you don't fully understand. You've always found it a bit difficult to truly understand people's feelings, including your own, but it always sort of seems like there's more to Melia's thoughts than she lets on. But... seeing as to how the two of you seem to get along just fine, you think that you might not need to know everything. After all, you're both plenty happy right now, and so long as your friendship lasts, things will probably be just fine.

[ SHIPPING ]
My two main ships for Shulk are with Fiora and (male) Robin, but I am happy to discuss any ship possibilities! However, please bear in mind that, even with these preferences, I will only ship with chemistry, and am unwilling to ship immediately. I like to build up a relationship between two characters beforehand, it's both more fun and more realistic that way!
Also, please do not try and force a ship on me/my character if we have not discussed it beforehand! I really don't like having anything pushed on me, shipping or otherwise, so if you attempt to pressure me into a ship, you're basically ensuring that I will not be shipping with you. Let's discuss things like reasonable people, thank you!
[ FIGHT RPS ]
I am also more than happy to do fight RPs! My replies for these can get a bit long, but I like to be as detailed as possible with fights. Shulk may or may not use his full arsenal, depending on the setting. For Smash fights, he will obviously be limited to the Arts he is confined to ingame: the five Monado Arts, Back Slash, and Air Slash (as well as his visions, of course). For Xenoblade Chronicles 2 fights, Shulk will once again be limited, however this time it will be to his XC2 moveset as a Blade. Outside of this, however, Shulk is likely to use any and all Arts available to him in Xenoblade Chronicles, including all eight of the Monado Arts. Fights like these may occur even if the opponent is also in Smash, but the setting is outside of the tournament's rules, such as sparring during downtime or during arguments. Most if not all multiverse fights (as well as fights that take place within the original Xenoblade Chronicles world, or with XC1 characters) will fall into this category as well, unless one or both writers specifies that it is under Smash or XC2 rules!
(Also, as a side note, Shulk will be unable to use Monado Jump and Monado Smash outside of Smash fights, so you won't be seeing him parkour through the roof or send someone flying with the flick of his wrist outside of those.)
[ ART POSTS ]
All art posts on this account are things I have drawn myself! As an artist, I hate the idea of reposting art, much less without credit. That being said, I won't not interact with you if you do repost art (with or without credit), but do let this serve as a gentle reminder to credit your artists, and don't use art you don't have permission for! If an artist says not to repost their art, then don't repost; it's just that simple!
[ GENERAL INTERACTION ]
My reply speeds can be somewhat inconsistent due to motivation and sleep schedule issues, so replies may be instant, or they may arrive several days later. I try not to drop RPs, so if I haven't replied in a while, I probably will eventually! If you're concerned about the length of time, feel free to (politely) DM me about it!
(SLs are an exception to this whole segment of course, I try to really kick my ass into gear during those, haha.)
Even if I don't follow you, I'm usually willing to respond regardless, so please feel free to interact with my posts! I highly encourage starters at any time as well, even if it's just something simple!
Finally, I apologize if anyone is annoyed or overwhelmed by how much I reply with sometimes! I like to be descriptive and thorough, so I tend to write a few tweets worth of content when replying.
